Barcelona FC Fights Malaria at Chelsea Waterside Park with some help from GGFC and DUSC

Barcelona FC is much More Than A Club

Thierry Henry and his Barcelona teammates took time out during their pre-season US Tour to join the fight against malaria. Barcelona has joined forces with Malaria No More in a massive anti-malaria campaign. More Than A Club,  is Barcelona’s partnership with Malaria No More and AYSO to help save lives by providing families in need with mosquito nets.

The fundraiser was a five a side tournament. The teams combined Barcelona players and local AYSO players. The Downtown United Soccer and Gotham Girls FC players were treated to a day of star gazing as their favorite Barcelona players displayed all the footwork and skill that make them one of the world’s best teams. The fun took place at the Chelsea Waterside Park and members of the DUSC and GGFC clubs helped organize the event.

About More Than a Club

Soccer is the world’s favorite sport. With nothing more than a ball and a little teamwork, it is played by millions of kids in the United States and Africa alike.

The More Than a Club: Kick it to Malaria program embraces soccer as a unifying factor for children worldwide. Through the program, kids in the United States can use their favorite game to save lives by raising awareness about malaria and raising money for live-saving bed nets that prevent the disease.

Malaria is the number one killer of children in Africa. Transmitted by a mosquito bite, it kills a child every 30 seconds. Malaria was eradicated in the United States in 1951, but is still a huge problem—especially in Africa. The disease is so devastating and sudden that a child who is playing soccer with his friends in the morning can be dead by nightfall. But it doesn’t have to be this way: a simple $10 bed net can save a life.

Liverpool FC v Rangers FC at Pier 40? You Bet!

Central City Initiative Fundraiser a HUGE Success!!!

Thank You Liverpool FC and Rangers FC Supporters Clubs!!!

Two of Europe’s biggest clubs faced off Tuesday night at Pier 40....in the form of their supporters clubs of New York City.

The Liverpool FC and Rangers FC supporters clubs play an annual match for bragging rights. This year the two clubs took the game to the next level by creating a fundraiser to benefit the Central City Initiative, a community outreach program launched by Downtown United Soccer Club and its sister club Gotham Girls FC. CCI serves New York City’s underpriveleged schools by placing professional soccer coaches in inner city schools where the physical education programs have been cut. The lessons learned on the soccer field follow the kids into the classroom and result in stronger academic achievements and improved life skills.

The Rangers FC and Liverpool FC supporters clubs understand the importance of serving their community and building soccer supporters for the future. DUSC, GGFC, and CCI are excited to be a part of the team and foster the love of soccer in New York City.

The event gained incredible momentum and even the official Liverpool FC website posted the news to share:

CALLING ALL GIRLS! GGFC Academy For Girls U6 - U9

Calling all U6 - U9 Girls!!

Come and join the fun this fall with GGFC Youth Academy

GGFC strongly believe that it is in the best interests of children ages U6-U9, to play soccer in an academy program comprised of intensive training sessions and small-sided games.  This allows players to learn the fundamentals of soccer, and to appreciate the game, without an inappropriate level of competition. The program is run by professional coaches who have designed lesson plans to develop each player’s technical and tactical skill in a friendly, fun and professional environment.

CONGRATULATIONS CHARGERS!
GGFC Chargers charged their way to Virginia and took first place!

Gotham Girls FC would like to congratulate Kenichi Yatsuhashi and the U16 Chargers for their tremendous performance in the Virginia College Showcase. Thank you to all the parents for your support and commitment. The team stormed through the competition and took the finals in penalty kicks. The Virginia Showcase is a premiere event for competitive teams where players have the opportunity to perform for college coaches from all over the country. GGFC is committed to providing our teams with every opportunity to perform in elite competitive tournaments. We are very proud of the Chargers and the example they are setting for the rest of the teams.
