Ali Rubnitz has been named the new Executive Director of Gotham Girls FC. Rubnitz comes to Gotham Girls FC with a wealth of experience and passion for women’s soccer from her most recent collegiate coaching positions.
“With the addition of Ali as the Executive Director partnering with Jose Goicochea, our Technical Director, we bring new and exciting opportunities to grow and support the competitive and leadership skills of the players in our club,” said Gotham Girls President, Cindy Sirko.
Between her current position on staff at Columbia University with the women’s soccer program and previous Assistant Coach positions at Seton Hall University and Monmouth University, she is bringing vast knowledge of both club and collegiate soccer to the club.
“I would like to thank the Board of Directors for giving me this opportunity to lead the club into our exciting next chapter,” Rubnitz said. “I am extremely thrilled to be a part of the Gotham Girls FC family and to work closely with Jose Goicochea in this role to build and grow our club to compete on the next level.”
Goicochea, now in his 10th season with Gotham Girls FC, has provided a solid foundation of technical expertise and passion for the girls’ program. As a former a collegiate player, a professional player in Barranquilla, Colombia, Goicochea adds an unparalleled dedication and excitement for the game. “We are excited to have such a winning new management team in their dedication to youth soccer and the enrichment it brings to the lives of players,” said Cindy Sirko.
Between the coaching backgrounds of both Rubnitz and Goicochea, Gotham Girls FC is gaining fantastic expertise from youth development all the way to the demands and requirements to play at the highest collegiate and professional levels.
Gotham Girls FC will be starting a new era under this leadership duo in both the level of play and competition, as well as other parts of the club philosophy and curriculum. While there will be a continuing emphasis on individual player development there will also be a reinvented focus on personal and team leadership development. Rubnitz and Goicochea have the vision for Gotham Girls FC teams to develop both as players and as people. That is the beauty of the sport, what it teaches both on and off the field. Gotham Girls FC is a club that has a holistic perspective on player development from youth programming all the way through the collegiate level.
GGFC U12 Pelada Captures Championship in Needham!
The GGFC U12 Pelada won the Zakim Bridge 9V9 division in the team’s first Memorial Day tournament experience. Over 5 games, Pelada scored 25 goals while giving up only 5. After losing the first game to Velocity Premier Soccer Club Holbrook from Maine 1-4 Saturday morning, Coach Dani made some adjustments and the girls played with urgency and an appropriate level of aggression to win the next 3 games against two teams from Vermont and one team from New York West over the weekend earning a spot in the championship against Velocity again Monday morning.
In preparation for the final, the girls watched game film during a Sunday night coaching session with Coach Dani and Coach Jose after their team dinner. Pelada won the championship game 4-1 continuing their style of play and coming out strong from the first whistle. The win was a thrill for the girls, coaches and families attending.
From Coach Dani: “The Pelada girls played smart and they played very physical but most of all what made them better was their skill and desire to win…their attitude and aggressiveness was key in getting the wins.”
