Welcome to the GGFC Nutrition Page
A Resource for Players and Parents

If you are what you eat, what the heck are cheetohs?

Erica Mather, MA, HHC, CYT, spoke with Gotham and DUSC families to share important information on food and nutrition and how to bring more nutrients into our lives. This is an incredibly important topic for today’s young athlete’s. Overscheduling, choosing convenience over nutrition, and other factors are putting our children at risk for disease. The choices made at breakfast, lunch, snacktime, dinner time, have a dramatic impact on your family’s health and wellness.

The amount of energy that a child has at practice is connected to her learning process. When a player comes to practice with a nourished body, she is more alert and engaged in the material. If she comes to training without energy and hungry, she is at risk for dehydration and at risk for injury for playing in a compromised state. Often kids will not express hunger or they forget to eat, or they forget to put extra in their bag because they do not come home before going to practice. Please make sure that your daughter is in a position to come to practice nourished and ready to play. The Healthy Snack page is a great list of food items to pack in a bag for your daughter’s long day. Also if she forgets to bring food and usually stops at the corner store, dunkin donuts, starbucks, or mcdonalds, empower her with the healthy snack list and encourage her to make better choices.

Some “Energy” Bars that are Pretty Good, throw them in the bag for snacking…

Lara Bars, Kind Bars, Raw Organic Bars, Luna Bars

Please enjoy the material that has been provided. There is an opportunity to make small choices that become incredible important in life. You are what you eat after all!
